Affiliate links
How the links on Root & Wire are paid for, in short.
We use affiliate links
Some links on Root & Wire are affiliate links. Little Jam Jar Ltd, the company behind Root & Wire, is in the Amazon Associates programmes for Amazon.co.uk and Amazon.com, and the eBay Partner Network. When you buy through one of those links, Amazon or eBay may pay us a commission. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases. As an eBay Partner Network affiliate we earn from qualifying purchases.
They cost you nothing
You pay the same price as you would going to Amazon or eBay yourself. The commission comes out of their side.
They never change what we recommend
We work out what a tree needs from its care first and link to it second. Nobody pays to be listed, and we choose what a kit contains before any shop is involved. The only shop prices and pictures on the site are the current eBay listings on the supplies and kit pages, for UK visitors: eBay's search picks those, not us, and they are marked as eBay's. Their links are affiliate links too. A kit's rough price band is our own estimate.
Where they appear
On the supplies, species, care, starter kit and pot pages, under the words "Contains affiliate links". Never inside the care advice, and never in the files you download, which carry plain links back to this site. Most links are searches rather than particular listings, so what you see is the shop's choice for those words; we say what to look for.
Which shop you see
Visitors in the UK or Ireland see Amazon UK and eBay. Visitors in the US see Amazon.com and eBay. Everyone else sees eBay, and Amazon UK for books. Which eBay the link opens (UK, US, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Australia, Canada or Ireland), and the search words for it, follow the country your connection comes from; a country without its own eBay here goes to the nearest one, or to eBay UK. If the country cannot be found we go by your browser's language. You can choose another shop at the foot of any page.
Counting clicks
To learn which pages are useful we count clicks on affiliate links by page, using the browser's own ping attribute to a path on this site. That request carries no cookie, runs no script and identifies no one; see the privacy page.
